Movie Monday -- Equilibrium

It's rare for me to randomly run across a movie I've never heard of and even rarer to have it turn out to be worth my time, but that's exactly what happened to me over the weekend. In need of something to watch for our Friday movie night, I started searching Netflix for movies from my 'Want-to-Watch List.' After spending about half an hour and having no luck finding any of them on instant streaming, I resorted to browsing the streaming titles. Finally, I happened across a movie called Equilibrium. The premise of a dystopian world sounded promising, it had a decent cast of fairly well-known stars (Christian Bale, Sean Bean, Taye Diggs), and Netflix guesstimated I'd rate it four stars. Bingo! We had our movie, but just how good would it be?

Movie Monday -- Remembering Robin Williams

This past week, I joined millions of other people around the globe in mourning the loss of legendary comedian Robin Williams. I often hear of the passing of celebrities, including some whose work I've enjoyed, but it's rare that one touches me in such a way that I truly grieve for them. I can honestly and without embarrassment say that I've shed more than a few tears over Robin's death. He had such incredible range as an actor. He could make me laugh like no one else could. He could touch my heart on a deep emotional level. And sometimes, that all happened in the same movie. Here are a few of my personal favorites:

Movie Monday -- X-Men & World War Z

I love a good story, but stories don't always have to come in the form of books. If you've read my bio, you know that one of my hobbies is watching movies. I usually watch at least one movie per week, but I'm not much for going out to the theater to see new releases. I typically wait for them to come out on DVD or Netflix. I'm also always on the prowl for older movies I might have missed. With that being the case, my musings in this column might not be the most up to date, but since I'm sure there are others out there like myself, I figure my comments are still relevant.
